It takes a lot to successfully start and build a fashion business in Nigeria. Everything, from determination to proactivity, efficient time management, effective goal setting, branding, and packaging is important if you are going to make your brand unique and draw in the right crowd.
With all of these, however, if you lack self-confidence you will not be able to sell anything to anyone.
This week, we reviewed a video by Desola of Daisy’s wardrobe on how to build self-confidence. In it, she talks about what self-confidence is and how to build self-confidence as an individual.
The video aims to help fashion entrepreneurs understand what self-confidence is and give insights as to how to build self-confidence in themselves. She highlights ways she was able to build her self-confidence and gives tips on how you can build yours as well.
The review will cover;
- useful points fashion entrepreneurs can learn from,
- the effectiveness of the tips given, and
- important points missed.
Useful Points Fashion Entrepreneurs Can Learn From
What is Self-Confidence?
The journey to self-confidence is a continuous one. It is a training process that you must intentionally engage in. It is not something that just comes on you like that so you have to build it.
Self-confidence is the ability to believe in yourself, your abilities, and your judgements.
A lot of people doubt themselves every day and as a fashion entrepreneur, it is easy to doubt the things you are doing and the things you produce. Sometimes, these doubts can dampen your spirit and make you lose confidence altogether.
Over time, however, you just have to learn to believe in yourself regardless of what anybody says. Stay away from relationships that rob you of your self-confidence and from things that make you look for the approval of others as this will tell on your confidence.
Sometimes, being shy and unable to speak around strangers points to low self-confidence because you are worried about what others will say or think about you if you speak.
Steps to Take to Boost Your Self-Confidence
1. Self-Assessment
The journey to self-confidence starts with self-assessment. Honest self-assessment. Assess who you really are. Ask yourself who you are, what you like doing, and what makes you happy, this is a start on the self-confidence journey.
2. Accept Yourself for Who You are
You have to discover who you are and accept yourself for you – both the good and bad. When you discover all the things that make you the person you are then you can ask yourself what you can do to make things better. Sit down and think about it.
3. Work on Your Flaws
In building your self-confidence, you have to accept your flaws and your perfections, this is the beginning of self-confidence. Tell yourself that you want to do things better and be better every single day. When you are intentional about being better as a person, it shows on your confidence, the way you relate with yourself and others.
For example, if you assess yourself and do not like what you see; you do not like the way you look, talk, walk, or how people treat you, then sit and look for ways to make it better. List things that you know if you do consistently will make a difference in your self-confidence.
4. Love Yourself
You have to learn to love yourself and love yourself genuinely regardless of your flaws. This is the most important.
When you do not love yourself, people know because you unconsciously give out vibes that tell them not to treat you well, and they obey. But, when you love yourself and you say you will not let anyone walk all over you or treat you wrong, you begin to let people know how you want to be treated by the way you treat yourself and carry yourself.
5. Practice Self-Confidence
Learning self-confidence eventually becomes a skill as it is something you should do every day. It is like exercise, the more you exercise, the fitter you get. The more consistent you are with practising self-confidence, the better your results will be.
You have to make it an intentional journey.
Other Points to Build Your Self-Confidence
1. Look at What You Have Already Achieved
It is easy for your confidence level to drop when you feel like you have not achieved anything. Make a list of all the things you are proud of as an entrepreneur and a person, whether it is starting your business, learning to sew, learning a new skill or any other thing.
Each time you do something else that you are proud of, add it to that list. When your confidence level drops, pick up that list and remind yourself of how awesome you are.
2. Dress Nicely
“Dressing to kill is a confidence-booster.” – Steve Pritchard, Africa Travel.
When you look good, you feel good. Make an effort to dress nicely so you know you can stand and talk to anyone you meet confidently. When you dress nicely, not only d you feel better about yourself but you also get people to treat you better.
If you dress nicely, you’ll feel good about yourself. You’ll feel successful and presentable and ready to tackle the world.
3. Set Goals for Yourself
Set goals for yourself and take steps to achieve them. These goals do not have to be big, they can be things like planning a night out with friends or learning one new design every day. Aim to achieve these goals so you can tick them off to help you gain confidence in your ability to get things done.
4. Stop Comparing Yourself With Others
Comparison is a killer. Never compare yourself or your abilities as a fashion entrepreneur with anyone else. Be you and embrace you for you. Too much comparison breeds envy and envy never helped anyone.
It is okay to learn from others to make yourself better but never engage in an unhealthy comparison of how much better than you others are.
The Effectiveness of the Information to fashion Entrepreneurs
The steps provided in the video are very practicable, effective and easy for anyone to follow. The video clearly outlines the continuous journey of building self-confidence.
Just remember, you are super awesome and you have no reason to believe less of yourself. Practice building you self-confidence and you will see things change.

Hello! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I’m getting tired of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking
at options for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a
good platform.
