Every one of us has worn matching outfits with others at one point or the other. It could be an aso-ebi for a special occasion, a school uniform, or even branded clothing for a cause. Whatever it is, we have all done it before.

Apart from general occasions where we are required to, some people take it to the next level. Namely couples. Dating, engaged, or married, some couples take delight in wearing matching outfits to give us ‘couple goals’ all the way.

We asked 5 Nigerians what they think of couples wearing matching outfits and here’s what they said;

1. “Never. They shouldn’t do it.” – Rejoice

Do you think couples should wear matching outfits?

Never. They shouldn’t do it😂😂. That’s just my opinion though. I don’t see a point to it.

Lol. If they must do it, when do you think they should start?

If they must do it, it should be from when they’re married, as in legally married, with certificate. In fact, if they can hold on till the have kids, that would be awesome😂

2. “I think they should do whatever they want.” – Bobo

Do you think couples should wear matching outfits?

I think they should do whatever they want. They should but at least try to be stylish while at it. There’s no point matching if they will come out looking anything less than stunning.

If they must do it, when do you think they should start?

Not a clue. Not even sure why they do it in the first place. It just beats me.

Would you wear matching outfits with your boo?

If I ever do, it will be because I was bribed. Nothing else can make me do it.

3. “I don’t think couples should wear matching outfits.” – Femi

Do you think couples should wear matching outfits?

As a person, I love simplicity. I don’t think couples should wear matching outfits. This is because even as couples I believe we have different tastes when it comes to fashion. It also depends on individuals.

If they must do it, when do you think they should start?

I think your wedding rings or bands clearly states you are married. Wearing matching outfits is a personal thing. If you want to wear it, the when, how and where should be a thing of choice.

I believe that is why I don’t really like Aso-ebi. If you must wear matching outfits then it should be on specific special occasions.

Would you wear matching outfits with your boo?

I would personally not. I believe there is unity in diversity. Maybe I will for special occasions as I mentioned earlier, but otherwise, I wouldn’t.

4. Ayo

Do you think couples should wear matching outfits?

Yes and no. Yes, if they have an occasion to attend. No, for a bloody regular day. I like being an individual, I don’t believe in gum-body.

If they must do it, when do you think they should start?

When they get married. Before they marry there’s no need to wear matching outfits except its for a pre-wedding photo shoot.

Would you wear matching outfits with your boo?

No, but I can’t really say sha. People in love do stupid things. But right now I don’t think I will wear it with him.

5. “I don’t think they should wear matching outfits if they are not married.” – Modupe

Do you think couples should wear matching outfits?

Hmmm… This greatly depends on the couple in question. I don’t think they should wear matching outfits if they are not married. I mean, what’s the point?

If they must do it, when do you think they should start?

If they must? After marriage. I’m an old school babe so I don’t see the point in rushing things. You have all the years of your marriage to wear matching outfits so why rush things?

Except there is an occasion that requires them to wear an Aso-ebi, I think they should calm down. A little patience never killed anybody.

Would you wear matching outfits with your boo?

Although I think matching outfits are cute, I wouldn’t wear them with him. If I had to, it’ll be done very subtly. Maybe not matching fabrics but we can match colours once in a while.

At the end of the day, the choice to wear matching outfits with your partner is totally up to you. While it is cute to some, it is not so nice to others. You make your choice. Would you wear matching outfits with your significant other? Do let us know in the comment section below.
