What’s up fashionistas and naturalistas, I’m not done talking about us! Last week we spoke about how natural hair deserves all the hype it gets, if you haven’t read that piece, you can find it here.
Your hair, being the first noticeable part of your fashion is very important. It requires as much attention as your outfit and accessories.
For naturalistas who like to flaunt their hair, it needs extra attention. Natural hair is beautiful to behold and rock, but naturalistas know that our hair’s beauty doesn’t come easy, we have to put in the work.
It is not rare to hear naturalistas refer to our hair as our baby as it takes a lot of time and tending that makes us bond with our hair. Before my intro begins to sound like a natural hair campaign, let’s hear the views of other naturalistas. Do well to check this e-flier out first.

Now, let’s hear naturalistas talk about their hair care routine!
1. “I don’t leave my hair undone”- Bukola Adesoji

My hair care routine is quite simple. I understand my hair so I wash it every 2 weeks and make sure I don’t leave it undone to avoid tangling. Applying hair cream is necessary for the hair, I use soulmate hair cream and add a leave-in conditioner to my hair sometimes.
2. “I hydrate my hair often”- Ebunoluwa Mabayoje

I understand haircare routine to be periodic care for one’s hair. It could be daily, fortnightly or every other day. Some people take care of their hair every week. It’s basically tending to your hair periodically.
It depends on what type you want to do. For some, their hair care routine is like facials, it’s done every single day. I feel like hair care is something you do every day and night, tending for it before you leave the house and before you sleep.
As far as I am concerned, the best hair care product is water. Make sure your hair is hydrated. My stylist would say it as your body. If you don’t stay hydrated, your body will retain unnecessary stuff, if you don’t add water to your hair, it won’t be surprising to find dandruff and dust in your hair.
3. “Leave-in Conditioning”- Joshua Adejumo

As a guy who keeps my hair, I apply leave-in conditioners when I want to comb it and go beyond just applying it so my comb can run freely through each strand.
I condition my hair. Conditioning moisturises the hair and water is good for the hair. So for me, it’s washing my hair daily and moisturising so my afro can catch your eye.
4. “I don’t apply heat” -Kehinde Alao

I believe the best hair care routine is washing and oiling. Washing goes a long way in keeping the hair clean and free from dirt
A hair care routine is the way or steps you use to take care of your hair to keep it healthy. It can also be referred to as the treatment you give to your hair and I believe it should be done as often as your hair needs taking care of.
For me, I regularly apply hair cream to my hair and when I wash, I let it dry naturally. I don’t apply heat to it and plait it afterwards without wasting time.
I use warm water to wash my hair and trim it regularly to keep it healthy. I also use hair products made from organic ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter.
For hair care products, organic products work for me a lot. I would say use the product that works for your type of hair but I would recommend coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil & castor oil. Yes, oil it, oiling keeps the hair nourished and soft.
5. “Moisturizing my hair”- Iyin Oludiya
A hair care routine to me is the way you take care of your hair. It’s the things you do to ensure that your hair is well taken care of and in its best state and is dependent on individuals.
“I think every naturalista should have a daily hair care routine that involves moisturising the hair.”
Iyin Oludiya.
Every 2 weeks, the hair should be pampered. Washing it, conditioning it, oiling it, and just generally pampering it. If you have a protective style in, like braids, then maybe the routine can move to monthly.
I like shea butter, oils – coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil are my favourites, shampoo, conditioner, water – I know it’s not a product but natural hair loves it.
Our Conclusion

As a naturalista especially if you have coarse hair, you should take moisturising your hair importantly so you can enjoy it. Detangle it often too and avoid styles that will stress your edges and scalp.
Your hair remains an important part of your fashion, pay attention to it and have fun with it.
