Most people have something they don’t necessarily like about their looks. It could be from the way their nose is shaped to their general figure. To change this and make their bodies suit them more, some turn to surgery.
The question now is, how much is too when it comes to turning to surgery to enhance appearance. Here are the opinions of 5 Nigerians on it.

1. Too Much is Changing Your Entire Look
What do you think of people using surgery to enhance their look?
I don’t think plastic surgery is totally wrong. It all depends on the reasons why. Some people use the surgery to aid their looks after an accident, childbirth or other life-changing events. I think some surgeries are unnecessary but some corrective surgery is done for a reason.
Hmmm… Okay, what type of surgical enhancement procedures do you think are fine to do?
I think corrective implantation after an accident or fat reduction is not bad. I don’t think they are absolutely necessary, but, then it’s not bad to do.
True that. When do you think a person has gone too far with trying to achieve the perfect body through surgery?
“Too much means changing your entire look.” – Femi Baiyekisu.
When the surgery has made you “fake” in your looks, it is just too far. This is most common with breast, hips and butt implants.
2. Too Much is Not Considering Its Long Term Effects
What do you think of people using surgery to enhance their look?
I think when they consistently imbibe the culture of appreciating the uniqueness of their being, they will (with time) easily live with the parts of them that are not so ‘fashionable’ or ‘wonderful’. So, for me, surgery to enhance parts of your body ain’t necessary.
Interesting Response. What type of surgical enhancement procedures do you think are fine for people to do?
Surgery to correct birth defects – major birth defects.
Okay… When do you think a person has gone too far with trying to achieve the perfect body through surgery?
“When they don’t consider the long-term effects of their actions, they have gone too far.” – Chidinma Mbonu.
I once stumbled on an article about a lady who added breast implants about 10 years ago when she was single and hot. Now she’s married with kids she and she regrets them because her busts have naturally increased to a 36DD and they’re really grown heavy now, but she can’t take the implants out because she’s very concerned that her busts will be flabby once she does due to age. She regrets inserting them now.
Also, when the number of surgeries begins to mount up because that ‘look’ is not quite it, due to us humans being naturally insatiable, it is too far.

3. When the Person Ends up Looking Like a Doll
What do you think of people using surgery to enhance their look?
Well, I really think it’s a personal thing. People that do surgeries to enhance their looks are obviously not comfortable with their bodies and would like to look better. But I don’t think I could ever do it.
I don’t think I could ever do it either. What type of surgical enhancement procedures do you think are fine for people to do?
I’m not sure actually. But if an issue is life-threatening and would have to be resolved through surgical enhancement procedures, I would consider that okay.
Yeah… Sometimes it’s needed. hen do you think a person has gone too far with trying to achieve the perfect body through surgery?
“Hmm. Perhaps when the person ends up looking like a doll. 😂” – Boluwatife Fadugbagbe.
But at the end of the day, if the person is happy with how they look, it really doesn’t concern me. 😂
4. It’s Too Far When They Start Looking Like Their Favourite Celebrities
What do you think of people using surgery to enhance their look?
I don’t have a problem with it. Some people don’t like what they see in the mirror, and if they have the ability to change it then they should do what they need to do.
Okay. So you have nothing against it. Nice! What type of surgical enhancement procedures do you think are fine for people to do?
I don’t know, maybe nose jobs, facelifts, that one where they construct a jawline for you, and the likes.
When do you think a person has gone too far with trying to achieve the perfect body through surgery?
“They’ve gone too far when they start trying to look like dolls or their favourite celebrities and such.” – Adedeji Adeniji.

5. Too Much is Changing a Person’s Original Look
What do you think of people using surgery to enhance their look?
I don’t approve of it especially where the enhancement significantly changes the person’s original look.
What type of surgical enhancement procedures do you think are fine for people to do?
Strictly correctional surgical enhancement procedures.
When do you think a person has overdone it with trying to achieve the perfect body through surgery?
“It is overdone when the person doesn’t look like themselves anymore.” – Anonymous.
Surgical enhancement procedures in themselves are not bad as far as they are for a good reason. Everyone has a right to do what they like with their bodies but sometimes remaining natural is the best option.
