Jewellery makes an outfit. It is a big deal when it comes to dressing. It can switch up an outfit from casual to classy or from day to night. The jewellery a person wears says a lot about that person.
“I have always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit.” – Michael Kors.
FYNE Jewellery is a sustainable fashion brand that specialises in using lab-grown diamonds to make beautiful jewellery pieces. Founded by a third-generation diamantaire, Aya Ahmad, FYNE Jewellery takes out the detrimental impact of the diamond industry on the environment to bring customers contemporary jewellery with a conscience as clear as the diamonds they feature.
Aya was first drawn to lab-grown diamonds because of the innovative outlook it offered. An outlook that challenged existing practices and benchmarks in the diamond mining industry.
Educate, inspire, empower – three little words with the potential to change the world; that’s our mantra.
FYNE Jewellery makes bracelets, rings, necklaces, and earrings using sustainable lab-grown diamonds and ethically sourced 18K gold.
How FYNE Jewellery Makes Its Diamonds
A diamond is made out of carbon atoms formed in a cubic crystal structure. All diamonds, cultured and mined, exhibit the same cubic formation which makes them physically, chemically and aesthetically identical.
To make their diamonds as close to naturally occurring diamonds as possible, FYNE Jewellery replicates a mined diamond’s formation. This is done by putting carbon -the essential element that diamonds are made of – in a chamber and subjecting it to extremely high temperatures and pressures.
Once it has been grown, it is analysed, cut and then polished into a diamond with its own unique clarity characteristics. By looking at the diamonds FYNE Jewellery makes with the naked eyes or under a gemmology loupe, you cannot differentiate them from earth mined diamonds.
FYNE Jewellery And Sustainability
Although FYNE Jewellery is not 100% zero-carbon, they make efforts to be more ethical, environmentally-friendly and socially responsible. Following the way of sustainability, they make pieces that are timeless and durable so customers know that, like with naturally occurring diamonds, they can wear the brand’s pieces forever.
In line with slow fashion, FYNE JEwellery collections are made in small batches using a made to order approach. This means that the brand has the chance to minimise waste whilst still giving ample time for the creation of their jewellery pieces.
Diamonds
FYNE Jewellery only uses cultured diamonds that are grown with renewable and recycled energy sources to ensure minimal impact on the environment. Since all their diamonds are as durable as earth mined diamonds, they can be passed on from generation to generation.
To ensure that they only source earth-friendly, ethical diamonds, they work with one of the world’s leading lab diamond distributors in Antwerp. They also cut and polish all their diamonds within SMETA-audited diamond cutting factories.
Gold
The 18K gold pieces of jewellery they use in their pieces are consciously crafted in Dubai. These gold jewellery are solid gold which means they do not rust or tarnish when exposed to oxygen or water. The 18K gold can also be upcycled into new jewellery pieces
Pros of Lab-Grown Diamonds
1. They Help Preserve Communities
Unlike with earth mined diamonds, lab-grown diamonds do not pollute groundwater or displace communities or wildlife. Seeing as they are grown in labs, there is no need for the digging and mining earth mined diamonds require so in many ways, lab-grown diamonds help save communities.
2. They are Guaranteed Conflict Free
Every lab-grown diamond can be traced back to its origin. This means that buying a lab-grown diamond, as opposed to earth-mined diamonds, eliminates the likelihood of buying a diamond that was gotten through conflict.
Since many naturally occurring diamonds cannot be traced back to their places of origin, the likelihood of purchasing a blood diamond when purchasing a mined diamond is high.
3. They are Affordable
Mined diamonds are 20 to 40 per cent less expensive than mined diamonds of comparable quality. This means that people have access to the diamonds they love at a more affordable price.
