On different social media platforms this week, Nigerians expressed their displeasure over the looming social media bill which is said to be designed to regulate actions on social media.
By trending the #SayNoToSocialMediaBill on Twitter, users created awareness especially for people who weren’t aware that this particular bill was also proposed a few years back. According to Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture in Nigeria,
“We must regulate social media in a manner that it doesn’t become a purveyor of fake news and hate speech.”
Rahama Sadau Condemned Over ‘Indecent’ Dressing
Nigerian actress, Rahama Sadau was born and raised in Kaduna and she is popularly known for the Northern roles she plays in numerous Nollywood shows and movies, including Up North.
On Monday, she took to her social media pages to post a glamorous picture of her in a stylishly blended dress with dramatic sleeves and an open back.
However, this picture didn’t seat well with many people as they felt it was offensive to the conservative Northern Nigerian Society and to Islam, which is Rahama’s religion. After much backlash, the actress deleted the pictures from her pages and then apologised for her actions.
