Is Make-up Impersonation or Enhancement? Here’s What 5 Fashionistas Think

There’s been so much talk around makeup and makeup artists in recent times. Many people go on social media to share experiences of people they met with makeup on and what they looked like without makeup. It’s a common joke to hear people say they were scammed by the makeup someone had on.

Nevertheless, the makeup business is still booming and people still get facebeats done from time to time. It is rare to see public figures or people at events without makeup on. Makeup is still very much a trend.

If makeup is still a trend, then it isn’t a problem, or is it? Well, to answer the question, we asked 5 fashionistas for their opinions – is makeup impersonation or enhancement? Here are their responses.

It should be enhancement but more often than not, it becomes an impersonation. I don’t hate the idea of makeup but I’m not at home with it. If you can do without it, I’d prefer that. Makeup, for me, is a toolkit for the stage or screen. Anything beyond that doesn’t interest me that much.

Occasionally wear makeup. When the occasion demands it, makeup can own the day. Asides from that, I don’t think anyone should whip out their brush at the mention of any random outing or social gathering.

At what point does it become too much? At the point where I need help recognising you. That’s just bollocks and I won’t even feel comfortable staying by your side or talking to you.

“Makeup enhances a lady’s overall appearance.” -Iyin Oludiya

I think makeup is nice. It enhances a lady’s overall appearance and helps her highlight the beautiful features of her face.

I can’t really say how often someone should use makeup, that is dependent on individuals. For me though, I think it should be used when you feel like it.

Since I believe ladies should always try to look their best at all time, I think light makeup when you are stepping out of your house is nice. By light makeup, I mean lip gloss or balm, powder, and maybe some mascara at times. For heavier makeup, I think that should be reserved for serious outings like parties, weddings, and so on.

It becomes too much, for me, when a person cannot do without always pasting heavy makeup on their face. I also think makeup is extra when a person is unrecognisable with it.

“Makeup is meant to enhance your beauty.” -Olatide Ola-Egbinola

Yes, I love the idea of makeup because makeup to me is meant to enhance your beauty. You can wear you makeup as often as you want as long as you are comfortable in it.

Makeup can be said to be too much when you do not wear your colours moderately or when you were a certain look that doesn’t suit the shape of your face.

“Makeup should just be an enhancer.” -Olasubomi Adigun

Yes, I love the idea of makeup and I believe you can use it as often as you want to. It actually depends on your personality, whether or not you’re outgoing and enjoy being the centre of attraction.

At the point where you are not comfortable with how heavy it looks on you or people have to look at you closely before they recognise you, at that point eh, there’s a problem.

I believe makeup shouldn’t be something you wear because you aren’t confident in yourself, you have to love and be confident in your skin regardless. Makeup should just be an enhancer.

“Makeup should be an enhancement on a regular day.” -Tope Eniola

Makeup should be an enhancement on a regular day but thanks to “over-do” can be an impersonation. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of makeup. I think it’s really cute and all but it should be for special occasions.

There’s no perfect way to measure how often to wear makeup but it can be worn once in a while for occasions and festivities. Personally, I find ladies who invest in skincare more attractive. Wear your natural healthy skin, smile and just glow baby.

Makeup becomes too much when it completely alters your natural identity. I also have a problem with it when it is worn way too often, let your skin breathe, please.
