Africa is a very colorful continent and we have lots of brands who portray Africa with their collections. One of them is Ghana’s Christie Brown fashion brand whose Creative Director is Aisha Ayensu.

Here is a bit about Aisha..

As a little girl, Aisha enjoyed playing with the leftover fabrics that her grandmother, Christie Brown, used to create wonderful pieces for customers. Afterwards, she decided to practice fashion designing fully. Since she started, Aisha has bagged the Glitz Style Awards African Designer of the year twice in a row, amongst many other awards.

The Christie Brown Brand

The Christie Brown brand caters for women of different styles and backgrounds, and is not limited to body type or physique. Designers, tailors and artisans working with the brand have mastered the art of perfectly blending African wax prints with different materials ranging from silk to velvet among others.

The African traditional embroidery is a common feature of most outfits in the collections and it adds that afrocentric, yet modern look.

AW'17 FEMINIST

Christie Brown pieces have been worn by different women, both locally and interntionally. Tina Knowles, Beyonce Knowles and, Tiwa Savage are some of the famous names that have worn various pieces by Christie Brown. Ghanian fashion to the world, right ?

What inspires the looks in her collection, Who is the Christie Brown woman?

For Aisha, women in Christie Brown should be perceived as bold and confident. One of her collections, AW’17 FEMINIST seeks to correct and some traditional stereotypes people have on the roles of women in the society and, how women should not hold important political positions in the society.

The looks in the collection have a powerful feel to them. The Christie Brown woman is definitely a daring one.

Her collection, Our Woman SS19, with a variety of looks ranging from puffed jackets to pencil skirts to dresses, and blazers, all had the common infusion of African wax prints, popularly known as Ankara, while still retaining the modern and contemporary look.

Christie Brown SS'19

Aisha Ayensu, through her fashion brand Christie Brown is putting Africa on the map, as she offers people something different from the norm. A little splash of wax print here, a little embroidery there, and a piece of clothing comes alive!.
