Sindiso Khumalo is an eponymous women’s fashion brand owned by Sindiso Khumalo. Sindiso Khumalo is a South African textile fashion designer who has a keen interest in sustainable fashion. Despite studying Architecture at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, her avid interest in fashion made her move to London where she acquired a Masters Degree in Design For Textile Futures.
She later got the vision to start her own fashion brand, in order to emphasize the strong roots of African culture.

Over the years, the brand has designed outfits, such as dresses, jackets, tops and many more, with sustainable textile fabrics.
Sustainable fashion, also known as eco fashion, is part of the growing design philosophy which aims at creating a system that can be supported indefinitey in terms of human impact on environment and social responsibility. The sustainable textile fabrics are handmade specially by Sindiso Khumalo with watercolours and collage.

The fashion brand has released quite a number of collections since its inception in 2015, each of the outfits in the collections are insipired by the designer’s Zulu and Ndebele heritage. It is obvious in the way the outfits and accessories are patterned, that they are synonymous to the African culture.
The SS20 collection, comprising of jackets, dresses, crop tops, skirts and many more, was designed using sustainable organic cotton fabric. Oozing a level of class and poise, the outfits were designed using handwoven textiles.

The Miss Celie Collection, also regarded as Collection 6, featured mainly handwoven two-pieces, kaftans, alongside dresses and shorts. The fabrics in the collection, which is African folk inspired, are flowery and chic. The collection explored a huge extent of textile designing as it featured handwoven techniques, hand screenprint on linen and bespoke handcut out prints in silk and linen. This collection showcased her unique colourful visual creativity, and arts.

The AW18 Collection:A Life In The Tropics, explores another angle to fashion designing as the outfits, were inspired by the merging of African imagery and plant life. The different outfits ranging from, jumpsuits to jackets to dresses and even to clothing accesories, like scarves, tapped into a rich African heritage which the designer likes to highlight in her collections.

Some of the brand’s other collections include The SS18 Collection: Inanda, The SS17 Collection and many more.
The fashion brand has showcased at numerous fashion weeks and exhibitions, including the Milan Fashion Week, South Africa Fashion Week, Zeitz MOCAA Exhibition, and has won many awards and competitions such as The Vogue Italia: Who’s On Next -Dubai.
Just recently, Sindiso Khumalo, the fashion designer was nominated for the Louis Vuitton Moet Henessy (LVMH) Fashion Prize For Young Designers. This award has been won in the past by only one African African fashion designer, Thebe Magugu from South Africa.
Sindiso Khumalo is breaking barriers in the fashion industry, especially with her interest in sustainable fashion, and it is immensely commendable!Like 1
