The fashion industry is a great place to be in and one that is constantly buzzing with new opportunities for the newbies that want to be a part of it. With so many fashionistas out there who do not want to go into making clothes, the fashion industry has expanded to cater to all.

Here is a list of fashion business ideas outside of making clothes;

Fashion Business Ideas Outside of Making Clothes

1. Fashion Events Planner

Fashion events are all about the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry. If the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry fascinate you and you love fashion events then this might just be the job for you. fashion events planners plan and organise fashion events such as fashion weeks, product launches, store openings, and so on.

A fashion events planner is involved in promoting the brand identity of the brand he/she works with. To be successful at being a fashion events planner, you have to be knowledgeable about fashion and marketing, and being well oragnised is not an option.

Fashion events planners will be involved in such things as creating the right atmosphere and style that will fit into the design of the brand, finding a venue, hiring staff and equipment, and ensuring everything goes well in their fashion events. With all the glamour that comes with it, it requires a lot of hard work but with this hard work comes satisfaction with each successful event.

2. Personal Stylist

If you love to see people looking good and wearing what suits their bodies then being a personal stylist might be what you were born to do. A personal stylist is one who advises people on new fashion trends, clothing styles, colours, and make-up.

As a personal stylist, you need to get to know your clients on a personal level – their tastes, style, preferences, body types, etc. To be successful at being a personal stylist, you need to genuinely want to help your clients, after all, fashion entrepreneurs are in the business of providing solutions.

Also, you need to have an eye for style, people skills, and a business mindset. Typically, to gain such skills, you will need to have some experience in fashion retailing and dressing others.

Personal stylists can work with people from all works of life – from a businessman to politicians, celebrities, models, etc. Personal stylists gain publicity mainly from word of mouth and from collaborating with others in the industry.

3. Lingerie Production

When it comes to having fashion brands that produce underwear, the Nigerian market is lacking. Underwear is an important aspect of dressing as it is something everyone puts on on a day to day basis.

As someone passionate about fashion, you can start your lingerie line and maybe even become Victoria’s Secret of Africa. Imagine starting a lingerie business and producing underwear made from our African wax print fabric, Ankara.

Knowing that many people love to wear branded items, you can specialise in the making of unique and beautiful lingerie for the African woman. This is a business fashionistas should try out.

4. Fashion Illustrator

If you are both fashionable and artistic then being a fashion illustrator might work well for you. Fashion illustrators, who are also known as fashion design artists, are individuals that use their drawings, graphics, and digital skills to create images for fashion brands, magazines, designers, and newspapers. They focus on expressing fashion designs and ideas through art.

Fashion illustrators do not have to be limited to making illustrations for designers who want to express their fashion designs on paper, they can also work with fashion magazines, books, and other fashion-related products. fashion illustrators tell stories about clothing, handbags, shoes, jewellery, and more.

Fashion illustrators need to understand clothing to be able to communicate textures, textiles, folds, drapery, and such easily on paper. They also need to have knowledge of the fashion industry and what is trending to stay on top of their game. many fashion illustrators show their work to the world through their website and social media pages.

5. Photo Stylist

Photo stylists work closely with photographers of shoots to create the mood for a photoshoot and ensure everything goes as planned. The photo stylist is usually involved in getting a location for the shoot, clothing for the models to wear, accessories to match, and so on.

A fashion photo stylist must have a good sense of fashion, an understanding of the fashion industry, and where to get the right items from. A photo stylist must also be well organised to be able to manage all the different aspects that come with making a photoshoot look great!

The fashion business is one that has various opportunities for all sorts of fashionistas. All you need to do is know yourself and understand where you fit in. With determination and plenty of hard work, the sky is just your starting point.
