Shanghai Fashion Week Postponed Amid New Covid-19 Outbreaks

According to internal sources, Shanghai Fashion Week has been postponed to early April. This postponement comes following new outbreaks of Covid-19 infections in Mainland China. Shanghai Fashion Week is however yet to make an official announcement about this.

The fashion week, which is one of the few that was to hold a physical event, was planned to happen in March. Brands like Canada Goose and Cartier that planned to host offline events in the country this January cancelled their events opting to go online instead.

Earlier in the month, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, London and Paris Fashion Week also announced that they will be going virtual for the events.

Black-owned fashion label, Telfar has won the Fashion Award Design of 2020 award for its vegan-leather gender-neutral shopping tote bag from London’s Design Museum.

The brand has been credited with upending the idea of luxury fashion as something that is out-or-reach and aspirational by most people by creating high-quality products at an affordable rate. The Telfar shopping bag in itself became a celebrity favourite with celebrities like Solange Knowles, Issa Rae, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rocking it.

“In an era where true luxury is having a functioning health and social security system, I think their slogan – ‘Not for you, for everyone’ – rings very true,” Emily King, guest curator at the Design Museum said, celebrating their win.

Founded by Telfar Clemens and Babak Radboy in 2005, the brand has been praised for its impact on Black fashion both for its handbags and durags.

Kering And Others Partner with Apparel Impact Institute for to make Italian Fashion more Sustainable

Recently, the Apparel Impact Institue (AII) announced a project called ‘The Italy Project’ in partnership with Stella McCartney, Burberry, and French luxury group Kering. The partnership is aimed at improving the environmental footprint of Italy’s luxury fashion supply chain.

“Fashion brands have always been a little quiet and secretive about their supply chains. With this project, Burberry, Stella, and Kering are coming to the table and publicly collaborating across a shared supply chain. It’s really exciting to see that even in the pandemic, these brands were so willing to get behind it,” Lewis Perkins, President of AII, said.

Although all 3 brands have had personal relationships with AII over the years, they realised that coming together could make an even greater impact on the environment.

Starting with around 20 Italian facilities, the project will take place over several months and years. They also intend to collaborate with a local nonprofit organisation to build the long-term program, with the end goal of ‘decarbonising’ the entire Italian supply chain.
