Passion fuels dreams and ambitions. If you do not have passion for a cause, it is highly unlikely that you will put your very best into it. As a fashion entrepreneur who is saddled with the responsibility of making people feel beautiful and solving various fashion-related problems, you need passion to drive you and push you on.
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” – Oprah Winfrey.
Here are 8 ways to reignite your passion for your fashion business as a fashion entrepreneur. To spice things up a bit, we got the opinion of Nike Adedoyin of VetirbyMaygo on what she does when her passion for the business of fashion dwindles.
1. Identify what is Weighing You Down.
Many times, passion dwindles because of an issue that has settled so much on your heart and has succeeded in weighing you down. The first step to reigniting your fashion business passion is identifying what caused the passion to die at first.
Take a look at the things that are weighing you down and find ways to address them and make them better. Whatever it might be, it is only when you can identify it that you can tackle it head-on.
2. Focus on the ‘Why’.
Many times, it is easier to focus on the struggles and challenges that come with being a fashion entrepreneur than why you started in the first place. The ‘why’ is the trigger for passionate action.
Look at what made you develop that passion for fashion in the first place and focus on it. Remember and visualise the big picture, that goal you wanted to achieve at the start of business, and keep your mind stayed on it.
Each time you feel like giving up and throwing in the towel, your ‘why’ is sure to stop you right in your tracks and push you to try again.
“I have never lost passion for my fashion business. I get tired sometimes, but the passion never goes. When I am tired, I think about the bigger picture – what I really want to achieve – and if I have or haven’t achieved it. And because I know I haven’t, the bigger picture remains the goal.” – Nike Adedoyin, Founder VetirbyMaygo.
3. Connect with a Mentor.
A mentor is a valuable asset any fashion entrepreneur can have. When your passion level is low and you are discouraged, a mentor can help you find your way back. Since they have gone ahead of you, they can provide valuable insight and tips on how to get back on your feet and have passion pumping through your veins again.
A good mentor will be able to pull you back up again and lead and cheer you on as you take steps back in the direction that brought you to the fashion industry.
4. Do what You Love to do.
Many times, as business owners, it is easy to forget that you do not have to do every aspect of the business by yourself. Instead of focusing on and doing the things you do not like about the business of fashion, turn your attention to the things you love the most about your business.
Think about what brought you to the fashion industry initially and begin to do those things that make you happy. Are you excited by creating new designs and collections? Do you enjoy styling clients and seeing their faces light up with joy when you get it right? Do you enjoy tailoring outfits to perfection? Focus on these.
Also, you need to remember to do what you love doing outside of the fashion industry. If you love to dance or hang out with friends and you have not gotten around to doing it in a while because of pressure from work, family, and business, it is time to make out time to go back to them. Just do what makes you happy so you do not burnout.
As you focus on doing what you love doing both in business and your personal life, you can outsource whatever you do not like doing – which brings us to the next point.
5. Look for Ways to Outsource and Automate.
There are certain aspects of your fashion business that you do not have to do by yourself, especially when you do not enjoy doing them. Look around, think of the tasks you hate doing and consider outsourcing them to someone else.
For example, if you do not like bookkeeping and your business cannot afford to hire an accountant yet, you can arrange to have someone come in once in a while to do it for you. If you do not like sewing but you love designing, you can create your styles and outsource production to a tailor or production house.
Also, some processes can be automated in your business, not everything has to be done manually. You can use finance tracking apps, like Wally, to keep track of your spending, fashion design apps, like Tailornova, to automatically draft simple patterns for you, and so on.
Doing all these will take the stress off you and give you time to reconnect with the real reason you started your fashion business in the first place.
6. Surround Yourself with Positive People.
The people you surround yourself with determine, to a large extent, how your life will go. When you have lost your passion for your entrepreneurship journey, it is sometimes people that help you get back on your feet.
Make it a point to surround yourself with positive people that always have a positive vibe around them because their positivity is sure to rub off on you. Look for people who will encourage you and who are excited about your entrepreneurial journey.
Just spending time with positive people that believe in you and always have your back can do a world of good for you and help reignite your passion.
7. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone.
Sometimes, playing safe and not wanting to plunge off the deep end saps you of passion. When you keep doing the easy things in your fashion business and never want to take a risk, you find that your monotonous work is tiring you out and you begin to lose the passion for it all.
As a fashion entrepreneur, once in a while, you need to step out of your comfort zone and that box you have put your brand in to do the impossible. Set targets for yourself that are reasonable but hard to achieve, learn that design technique that everyone is avoiding, find ways to make your unique selling point even more unique.
Stepping out of your comfort zone sure can put the fire for your fashion business back in your bones.
8. Take a Break.
Sometimes, passion and excitement dwindle because of fatigue. It is common for you, as a fashion entrepreneur, to keep pushing yourself even in the middle of periods of burnout because you feel like your business will fail if you do not.
While this might seem like the truth, taking a break is the answer. Go on that vacation you have been dreaming of. Spend some time with family and friends. Take out time to do those things you did not previously have time for.
When you do this, you will find that your head is clearer and you can do things more efficiently and much happier. You might also just find that all you needed was a break to bring your passion back.
