Fashion Tech Review: Here’s All You Need To Know About The Tailornova Fashion Design Software

There is almost no industry that does not require the use of technology. The fashion industry, which is now using apps and tech for fashion shows and events, is not left out.

In fashion, the use of software and technology is not limited to fashion shows alone as fashion designers can use these tools to design their products and make work easier. Previously, we have looked at how Autodesk Sketchbook and Fashion Design App can be used to help with sketching and illustration for fashion designers, and today we look at the Tailornova software.

What is Tailornova?

Tailornova is a patent-pending online fashion design software that helps you create unlimited designs quickly and easily. It was developed by Yuliya Raquel of BootstrapFashion in 2013.

With Tailornova, you can visualise your designs in 3D and get custom-fitted patterns for all your designs. You, as a fashion designer, can preview 3D garment samples, flat sketches and made-to-measure sewing patterns.

You can speak with a professional about positioning your fashion business for growth by booking a free fashion business management session with a Mauvelli expert here.

With your height, body measurement and body shape, you can customise your own true-to-life 3D FitModel™.

Without creating an account with Tailornova, you can try some features out, but to use features like the 3D FitModelTM, you need to create an account.

What can Fashion Entrepreneurs Use Tailornova for?

As a fashion entrepreneur, you can use Tailornova for fashion illustration and to create all sorts of clothing designs ranging from dressed to blouses, skirts, jumpsuits, and trousers. Each of these clothing items has options to dictate features like neckline, length, style, colour, and fabric.

For each design you make, using the measurements entered into the software, Tailornova automatically creates a pattern that matches the design you created. This effectively takes off the strain of drawing patterns from pattern makers, which is really awesome.

For now, designers can only design womenswear on the Tailornova software as no option for menswear is available on it.

Tailornova Requirements and pricing

Tailornova is a web-based software that can be used on Windows PCs only. It requires no installation and has no mobile apps.

Tailornova is an easy-to-use software that requires no prior training, you do not even have to be a fashion designer to understand how to use it. It can be used by fashion designers in Nigeria and all other parts of the world.

Trying out the features for Tailornova is free but a fee is attached to download and print out patterns and designs from the software. Its pricing starts at $29.00 per month, per user, but if you decide not to subscribe to the paid plans, you need to pay a fee of $14.00 for every download you do.

With such prices, almost every designer can afford to use it, whether they run big fashion houses or not.

Tailornova Limitations

As mentioned earlier, Tailornova can only be used to design womenswear, this means that menswear designers will not find this software useful.

Also, Tailornova does not provide options for additional features on outfits like flounces, bows, frills, peplums, and so on. Slit positions can also not be changed.

Yet another limitation is the fact that the Tailornova software can be used only on Windows PCs and it has no mobile apps. This, in many ways, limits the way users can interact with the software.

Tailornova User Reviews

A lot of Tailornova users on Instagram like the app and say the measurements are on point and the fit of outfits produced from Tailornova patterns are good. A few customers, though, say the fit was off and adjustments had to be made to their Tailornova outfits. However, most customers liked it.

Competitors and Alternatives to Tailornova

Top competitors and alternatives to Tailornova are CorelDraw, PloyPM, BlueCherry, Delogue PLM, and RLM Apparel Software.

Although the Tailornova software site is still under construction, overall, it gets a 6 out of 10 based on its uses and limitations.

I recommend Tailornova to every fashion designer, especially those that are familiar with pattern drafting, as it takes the stress of drafting a pattern out of the whole design process. It is also a good software for visualising designs in 3D to know, to a reasonable extent, what they will look like when sewn.
