We can’t help but notice how so many people these days are drawn to the fashion choices of actors and actress in the ’90s. The ‘Nolly babes’ fashion style is one people readily draw inspiration from, and we have now made that easier!

Fashion History, our new column, highlights the fashion, accessory as well as lifestyle choices of these popular figures in the 90’s while including modern alternatives! How great is that? With this column, you can get different ways on how to slay in an Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde inspired look, or even Jim Iyke’s!

So, how can you slay in a 90’s looks inspired by popular actress and style icon, Tonto Dikeh? Let’s get down to it!

Style icon, Tonto Dikeh, in the image below rocked a cowl neckline top, and a pair of tight pants – thus going for a casual look. She also paired this outfit with matching accessories and a bright orange scarf to spice up the entire look.

One thing we love about this style is how chic and comfortable it looks. Whether to a party, picnic or even for lunch, this look checks all the right boxes. So, how can you recreate this look for different occasions with modern alternatives?

Casual Look

For a casual night out or hang out with your friends, you can rock a top or dress with the cowl neckline accessorised with a pair of boots and jacket to match. Well, if you don’t particularly fancy boots, a pair of slippers or sandals to match would be a hit as well!

Depending on the occasion or time of the day, you can also choose to pair this look with flashy or minimal accessories, and perhaps a headband to go as well.

Formal Look

Trust us when we say you can totally achieve the formal or corporate version of Tonto Dikeh’s look, and how is that?

You could pair a cowl neckline top or dress with a matching blazer and a pair of heels or flats for a ‘boss lady’ look.

In this case, however, you can’t add an edge to the outfit with a scarf or bucket hat, because it simply doesn’t fit the purpose.

But then again, who made the rules?

Corporate Casual Look

We understand if you wouldn’t like to be dressed too casual or too formal, so why not strike a balance with a corporate casual look? You can achieve this by pairing a cowl neckline dress, or a cowl neckline top with a pair of jeans, and rocking a pair of heels to match.

We love how the gold dress above was paired with mules and minimal accessories to achieve that ‘not too serious’ but slaying look!

Street Style

As they all say – there are no rules in the streets, so be sure that you can rock different outfits to suit your style. Drawing inspiration from Tonto Dikeh’s style, you can pair a cowl neckline dress or top with a pair of bucket hats, durag or scarf for that sizzling look.

If you wouldn’t want to draw too much attention to your outfit, then a pair of dark sunglasses would be very subtle and nice! We absolutely love how this cowl neckline skimpy dress was paired with a long-sleeve fishnet top and a baguette to give that sassy, streetwear look.

Pairing this look with dark sunglasses and minimal accessories such as rings and necklaces also gave a unique finishing touch.

Feeling like a modern Nolly babe yet? You’re welcome! Do share with us what your favourite modern alternative is from Tonto Dikeh’s look.
