Whether an amateur or an expert, a fashion entrepreneur needs to stay on top of the latest trends and changes in the fashion industry so as not to slack. One thing that has helped fashion brands stand the test of time over the years is implementing new techniques and processes in their brands.

Infusing new styles such as bell bottoms or boat/canoe neckline or perhaps utilizing unique fabrics such as crepe in their deaigns, can generally help a fashion brand to stand out. Here’s what the aforementioned terms mean and how they can be utilized in your brand as a fashion entrepreneur, as well as takes from a fashion entrepreneur and a fashionista.

Bell Bottoms

Bell bottoms, as you may already know, are a style of trousers that become wider from the knees downward, forming a bell-like shape of the trouser leg. According to Isioma Egbuejeh, the creative director of Isioma.R, bell bottoms are similar to the boot-cut style except they are much wider.

This bell bottoms style can be designed using a variety of fabrics including denim, Ankara or other African fabrics.

Boat Neckline

Boat neckline, also known as canoe neckline is a wide neckline that runs horizontally, front and back, almost to the shoulder points, across the collarbone. Just like Bamise Oyetayo shared with us, boat necklines have to be one of the most casually chic ways to take any outfit from drab to fabulous.

This neckline style is simple, casual and elegant and it has a shape that is flattering on virtually everyone.

Crepe

Crepe is a silk, wool or synthetic fibre fabric with a distinctively crisp, crimped appearance.

“The crepe fabric is stretchy in nature, that is a one-sided stretch.” – Isioma Egbuejeh, the creative director of Isioma.R

There are also different types of crepe which vary based on the construction methods and the fibres used, some of which are crepe de chine, crepe georgette, wool crepe and many more.

How They Are Used

The bell bottoms style is very versatile and can be worn for a range of events including casual and formal outings.

Just like Bamise Oyetayo shared,

“Bell bottoms pants have to be one of the most elegant types of pants there are.”

The boat neckline can be used to design casual outfits without it looking too boring.

“Whenever I have to sketch an outfit for a tailor without leaving them too confused, I just tone things down by throwing a boat neckline in to make sure that the outfit doesn’t end up looking too plain.” – Bamise Oyetayo

Crepes have an excellent drape and are often used for outfits with unique designs. Varying from lightweight to medium weight, crepe can be used to design outfits like dresses, suits, pants, blouses and many more.

These styles and material can be infused in a fashion brand without hassles to keep your brand on track with the latest trends.
